This year's look at NASCO Incorporated Community Projects

NASCO Headquarters

This year NASCO Headquarters has participated in several community projects. One of these community projects is building a park in the Stamford downtown area. Employees from headquarters spent over 30 hours putting sand in the sand box, helping put together swing sets, pulling weeds and many other tasks. The park is one of the prettiest in the Stamford area, and the children have been very grateful. Employees also participated in Walk a Dog Day sponsored by the local animal shelter. This day was put in place to walk dogs aroung Stamford, in hopes of sparking interest in someone to adopt the dogs. 20 out of the 40 dogs walked that day were adopted within 2 to 3 days. The animal shelter sent a letter of thanks and hopes that NASCO participate in this event again in the future. Employees also raised funds for the Children's Miracle Network, over $400,000 this year.

NASCO Snacks

This year, NASCO Snacks focused on one major community service project. They were helping renovate the runaway children's center. They did lots of work for the shelter, from painting to mentoring the children, to building beds to buying gifts. They also helped raise over $100,000 to help finish the shelter. NASCO Snacks also donated computer equipment for the children of the shelter.

Let's Go Trucking

Let's Go Trucking donated 16 empty, unused trucks to the children of their communities. What they did with these trucks was to convert them into playhouses, building little walls inside of them and furnishing them with toys and other neat things to play with. Let's Go Trucking also participated in teaching childen to read in their respective communities.

Nasco, Inc. once the darling of do-it-yourself transportation has come under fire by customers, investers, and even its own executives for supply-chain difficulties. Held back by dated filing techniques, thick administrative systems, and a heavy bureaucratic culture, Let's Go Trucking scored an industry low 90 day average turn-around time for customer orders. This dead weight has forced Nasco branches to turn to other carriers such as Fed Ex, Goods Shipping, and even regular post to move its goods. Industry analysts have put Let's Go on their "sell" lists and have downgraded Nasco Snacks to "sell" from "hold" since their business is so dependant on an efficient supply chain. Nasco's other branches have also been downgraded to "sell" (Mrs. Robinson's Cuisine), "hold" (Mrs. Robinson's Rest), "hold" (video gaming), and "hold" (Poirier).

Mrs.Robinson's

This year, both the restaurant chain and the frozen food line participated in helping national charities. They raised $100,000 for AIDS awareness, $10,000 for Jerry's Kids, and an additional $40,000 for cancer research.

Video Gaming Enterprises

This year, they participated in Give a Child a Computer Day. They donated over $50,000 of computer equipment to low income needy children in their area. They also participated in raising money for the Computers in Classrooms project.

Porier Bottling

Porier did a very unique project this year. They built a house out of recyclable bottles for a local family in need. They worked with Stamford University on how to build a house made out of bottles. They not only helped out a family in need, but gave some students from the university a great opportunity to participate in such an unusual task. They completed the project in just 9 months, and made national headlines doing so!

NASCO Incorporated Environmental Projects

This year all of NASCO Incorporated companies participated in one centralized environmental project. This year's project was to clean up all of the distribution and manufacturing plants around the country. The goal was to reduce harmful emissions by 20%, reduce waste by 50% and make the outside of each plant a bit greener with more trees and greener lawns. Together, all of NASCO's companies exceed the 20% goal of reducing emissions, reducing it by 43%. On reducing waste, again they came in ahead by reducing 64%. Over 2000 new trees were planted across the country and 300 acres of green lawn was planted as well.
